Zildjian is the largest cymbal manufacturer in the world. The company has been making cymbals used by all the great drummers on the planet since the 17th century. The founder was an alchemist from Turkey who accidentally came across a mix of metals that led to good-sounding cymbals. It was not until 1978 that people came up with the idea to apply a visible logo to the cymbals. The result was this calligraphic word mark. What intrigues me as a designer and as a drummer is the mysterious mix between East and West. Forty years later, it still perfectly symbolizes the age-old heritage of the brand.
